About Us
Hi, we’re Kami and Todd, the heart behind Ivy + Oak. Together, we’ve built a life full of love, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos with our blended family of six kids, three boys and three girls. From our spirited 9 year old to five lively teenagers, our days revolve around family, friends, and sports, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Kami has always had a passion for beauty. Since she was a little girl, she’s been fascinated with all things that inspire self belief and elegance. Investing in that passion led us to create Ivy + Oak, a business born from her talent and our shared belief that feeling your best often begins with looking your best.
With Todd’s background in sourcing and after over a year of searching, we found the perfect hair provider to meet our high standards for premium quality and customization. We don’t just sell hair, we provide confidence. Our mission is to support salons with exceptional products that help their clients feel as beautiful as they are.
At Ivy + Oak, we’re dedicated to empowering beauty and inner strength in everyone we serve. Thank you for letting us be part of your journey.
Hair Care Guide
Caring for Your Hair Extensions
We want you to feel confident and beautiful every day while wearing your extensions, so we’ve put together these personalized tips to help you care for them properly.
Brushing
- Always handle your extensions with care. Start brushing at the ends and gently work your way up to the roots.
- Use a gentle brush like a boar bristle or nylon brush to minimize pulling and prevent damage.
- Be patient and avoid tugging too hard—this will help your extensions last longer.
Washing
- Stick to sulfate- and paraben-free shampoos and conditioners that hydrate and nourish your hair.
- Avoid products with bond-building or protein-enriched formulas—they can dry out your extensions over time.
- After washing, rinse with cool water to lock in moisture and add shine.
- Wash only when needed to keep your extensions looking their best, and try dry shampoo for touch-ups.
- Deep condition every couple of weeks to maintain softness and vibrancy.
Drying
- Gently pat your extensions with a towel until they’re about 80% dry.
- While damp, apply a leave-in conditioner to keep them hydrated.
- Avoid air-drying; instead, use a blow dryer on a low or medium setting for a smooth finish.
- Never sleep with wet extensions—it can lead to tangling or breakage.
Styling
- Before using heat tools, always protect your extensions with a heat protectant spray.
- Use styling tools on low to medium heat to preserve the hair’s integrity.
- A wire or boar bristle brush is great for styling and maintaining a polished look.
- Regularly apply a lightweight hair oil or serum to keep your extensions moisturized, as they don’t benefit from your scalp’s natural oils.
Coloring & Toning
- If you’re considering coloring or toning your extensions, we strongly recommend consulting a professional stylist.
- Always do a strand test first to ensure the results meet your expectations.
- Remember, we can’t guarantee the quality of extensions that have been chemically treated.
Purple Shampoo
- To tone your extensions safely, mix a small amount of purple shampoo with water to create a “bath” instead of applying it directly.
- For the best results, leave toning to a trusted stylist to avoid unexpected color changes.
General Care
Sleeping
- Prevent tangles by loosely braiding your hair or tying it in a low ponytail before bed.
- Always sleep on a silk pillowcase to reduce friction and protect your extensions.
- Remember: never go to bed with damp or wet hair.
Swimming & Fitness
- Swimming with extensions can cause tangling, discoloration, and dryness, so it’s best to avoid it.
- If you do swim, generously apply a leave-in conditioner as a protective barrier. However, keep in mind we cannot provide refunds or replacements for damage caused by swimming.
Vacation Hair Care
- Sunscreen: Some sunscreens, especially those with avobenzone, can discolor your extensions. Avoid contact and choose sunscreens without this ingredient.
- Swimming: Chlorine and saltwater are not your extensions’ best friends. They can cause discoloration and dryness, so if you decide to swim, coat your hair with a leave-in conditioner and take extra precautions.
- UV Rays: Keep your extensions protected from the sun by wearing a hat and tying your hair back.
Important Reminders
- Extensions require a little extra TLC to keep them looking their best. Following these steps will help preserve their beauty and extend their lifespan.
